MECHANIC, TRANSPORTATION
Minimum Requirements (Education/Experience)
High school diploma or General Education Developmental (GED) certificate and three to five years related experience. Basic computer skills (e.g. Email, Microsoft Word, GPS and tracking software/equipment and Fleet Management Software) and use of diagnostic software & tools programs.
Valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver license with airbrakes and passenger endorsement, which must be obtained within 60 calendar days of employment. Must take and pass the written test portion of the Florida Certified School Bus Safety Inspector Certificate within 60 calendar days of employment. Must obtain the State School Bus Safety Inspector Certificate as offered by DOE.

Transportation Mechanic II: $47,860
Transportation Mechanic III: $59,860
Transportation Mechanics (I, II, III) exist with corresponding job descriptions with differentiated responsibilities and skills. Within 60 calendar days of employment must obtain a Class B Commercial Driver License with airbrakes and passenger endorsement and take and pass the written test portion of the Florida Certified School Bus Safety Inspector Certificate. Must obtain the State School Bus Safety Inspector Certificate as offered by DOE.

Experience and certification will be immediately reviewed upon hire to determine qualification for placement as Transportation Mechanic I, II, or III.
Professional Experience Required:
Transportation Mechanic I: Certificate from accredited Technical School for automotive or truck/bus repair or two to five years related experience in the fields of automotive and or truck/bus repair.
Transportation Mechanic II: Pass seven (7) required ASE school Bus certification exams (S1-S7)
Transportation Mechanic III: Pass nine (9) ASE Auto and light truck certification exams (A1-A9) and 3 Advanced ASE specialist certification exams (L1-L3).
